THE FILMMAKERS

M J McMAHON - DIRECTOr / producer

McMahon is based in London, UK and has worked professionally in the film and TV industry for over 16 years, originally starting as a runner for post-production company M2 Television eventually moving across to Molinare finishing his 9 year tenure there as one of their senior Post-Production Consultants.  He has extensive knowledge and experience working in digital post-production working on over 200 productions including TV shows Who Do You Think You Are?, Wife Swap and feature films like The Nine Muses, associate producing Cherry Tree Lane and as a Film Executive on Oscar winner the King's Speech.

In 2009 he co-founded the production company Capture, they produce commercials, online content and promos for clients including Nike, ITV, Ogilvy, AKQA, BBC and Sky TV.   Through their Film Division he's produced The Man from Mo'Wax - the official documentary on underground DJ James Lavelle and DJ Shadow, this world premiered at SXSW and was officially selected for MIFF and LFF.  In addition to this he has produced the multi-award winning short film Gin & Dry and The Girl In The Dress.

 As a director he made the multi-award winning short film Hawk before going on to make Killing Thyme which won the Audience Aware for Best Narrative Short Film at this year's Austin Film Festival, making a tally of over 50 wins/nominations/official selections for his films around the world.  He's presently developing his directorial feature film début Playing Mercy.


natalie malla - writer / producer

Natalie Malla started her writing career when her first project: 20 Anything, co-written with Xara Higgs, was optioned by The Comedy Unit in 2010. The following year Malla and Higgs took part in the Channel 4, Drama Scriptwriting Course and in 2013 her original Comedy Drama: Crow’s Feet, won the Bafta Rocliffe New Drama Writing Forum. In 2014, her Comedy Drama Treatment; Vixen Violets, co-written with Melissa Bubnic, was optioned by Clerkenwell Films and Malla and Higg’s new sitcom How To Be Normal has just been shortlisted for the 2015 Funny Women Comedy Writing Award.

At the beginning of 2015, Malla finished writing and producing her first short film: The Morning After, starring Ted Riley and Lindsey Campbell, Executive Produced by Thirty40Films. Killing Thyme is her second short, which she wrote and produced alongside Capture had it’s world premiere at the 2015 Aesthetica short film festival. It has also screened at the Foyle Film Festival and won Best of Festival at the 2016 Carmarthen Bay Short Film Festival in May.  Malla marked her direction debut with The Girl In The Dress, starring Olivia Poulet and Nick Helm, which screened at the London Film Festival, London Short Film Festival and Carmarthen Bay.

Having just finished Script Editing on Taboo, being produced by Scott Free and Hardy Son and Baker, Malla is currently developing the script for a follow up feature film version of The Girl In The Dress.


MATTHEW JONES - PRODUCER

Matthew Jones is a multi-award winning creative producer from London. In 2009 he co-founded the production company Capture, where he has produced commercials for television and cinema as well as online brand content, promos, and cutting edge digital interactive content for companies like Sky, Nike, Pottermore and Picturehouse. The first short film he produced was the award winning fantasy epic Hawk which was theatrically released in selected cinemas in front of Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part 2. His second short film, the multi award winning Gin & Dry has been nominated /officially selected at over 18 International Film Festivals. In addition Gin & Dry gained a nationwide UK theatrical release with Picturehouse Cinemas across 10 sites, appearing in front of features such as Gods & Men, The American and It’s a Wonderful Life. 

The Girl in The Dress, starring Olivia Poulet and Nick Helm marked Matt's third short film as producer. This was quickly followed by his fourth,  Killing Thyme. His directional debut, the official documentary on underground music pioneer James Lavelle, The Man from Mo'Wax World Premiered at SXSW  2016, subsequently screening at Nashville Film Festival, Sydney Film Festival, Melbourne International Film Festival and the BFI London Film Festival.
